Anali

Yay, another Thanksgiving Obama Cake!  I know I was thankful for the big O this Thanksgiving, for sure.

Anali says:

As one of our desserts for Thanksgiving, my aunt brought an Obama cake from Daniel’s Bakery in Brighton Center, Massachusetts.

It was really good! But at first, nobody wanted to cut the cake, because the picture is so pretty.  Well, we did get over it eventually and enjoyed the cake.

You can check out her blog, Anali’s First Amendment, here.

Thanks!

Lindsey shared an awesome cake that looks like it’s on the campaign trail, sitting right in front of the poster like that.  :)

Lindsey says:

This is an Obama cake that my mom and I worked on for Thanksgiving.  Everyone runs into the kitchen every five minutes to take a look at it.  We’re thankful for a fantastic election!
Thanks Lindsey!

Holly of Portland, OR

Holly of Portland sent me an awesome cake that I should have posted ages ago.  Sorry Holly!

Holly says:

Love your “Yes We Cake” site! Here’s the one I made. Orange cake (uplifting and hopeful flavor!) with rum cream cheese frosting. It’s appropriately BLUE on the inside. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that.

Sounds amazing, thanks Holly!

Biden’s Bday

Boss gives Biden cupcakes for his 66th birthday

WASHINGTON (AP) — What does an accomplished man of the world get for his 66th birthday?

Well, President-elect Barack Obama already gave Joe Biden the vice presidency. So, for his birthday, Obama gave Biden two ball caps and a rendition of the birthday song.

Biden’s birthday is Thursday, but Obama surprised his No. 2 after their weekly lunch Wednesday at the transition office in Chicago. According to staff, Obama presented Biden — a Delaware senator with decades of foreign policy experience — with a dozen cupcakes decorated with candles and teased, “You’re 12 years old!”

Staff reported that Biden, ever astute in the art of politics, laughed at the his boss’s joke. He responded: “Maybe in dog years!”

Obama led the rest of the staff in song, then handed over some Chicago-themed gifts: a White Sox cap, a Bears cap and a bucket of Garrett’s popcorn, a hometown favorite.

Korrine Decorating Instructions

So, I noticed that you guys really loved Korrine’s cake (with good reason!).  Luckily, Korrine was kind enough to share how she made it, so that you guys can try it at home!

Korrine says:

It was so much fun to make a cake about something I am so passionate about.  I have been making cakes for a couple of years- took the Wilton class series- so I could make a decent cake for my daughters’ birthdays.  This was the first time I have had the chance to make a cake for others outside my family.

I actually use a unique technique.  I used it the first time when I was asked to make a KISS cake for my brother-in-laws’ birthday.  I wasn’t sure how to pull that off and I was also not jazzed about the idea of eating black and red icing.  So I found an image online, printed it off and put it on a foil-lined piece of cardboard.  Then it basically became a paint-by-numbers cake.  I then placed a few sugar cubes on the top of the cake and floated the decorated image on that.  The cool thing is that you can remove the image when you cut the cake, still have the image displayed and people can enjoy yummy white frosting.  Gone is the diappointment of working hours on a cake and then having it dissappear in 5 minutes.  I still have the Obama piece and it looks perfect.

The Obama image was pretty detailed so I ended up using a #1 tip for most of it.  Very time consuming but well worth it.  And, of coures, the flavor was marble!

And Korrine was nice enough to share her awesome KISS cake, check it out!

Amazing!  Thanks so much Korrine!  If any of you guys try this technique and want to share the results, feel free to send your pics to cakehero@gmail.com.  Bonus points if you use it for a Barack Cake (maybe for the inauguration?)!
