All I have to say is this: 200 cupcakes and a dream. Amazing.
Chrissy says:
A few weeks before the election my husband approached me with an idea: to make an electoral map using cupcakes to represent the parties. At first, I thought he was crazy. The thought of baking over 100 cupcakes made my head swim. But, the more I thought about it the more excited the idea made me: an electoral map using cupcakes to represent the parties.
Ultimately I settled on baking mini cupcakes, so that the 100+ number didn’t seem so impossible. I made close to 200 cupcakes- including extras to eat while we awaited results, two large cupcakes (one to represent each candidate), and cupcakes for the date. I chose to make Red Velvet cupcakes to represent the Republican party and Blueberry cupcakes to represent the Democratic party. I used Marshmallow Fondant to make stars for each of the cupcakes and piped the state names onto the stars.
I set up the map at the party, with two cupcakes on each state (one red and one blue) and we waited for the results to come in. CNN and MSNBC might have had some fancy new technologies to help viewers understand the election results, but I think we had the tastiest.
You can find pictures of the process at my flickr (which I have put in the Cupcakes Take the Cake photostream) at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupocakedesigns/
You can also find a more in depth description of the project at my website:http://www.cupocakedesigns.com/featured.html
While the Cupcake Electoral Map did represent both parties, we ate a lot more red cupcakes on Tuesday and were just thrilled by the outcome.
Thanks Chrissy, what an awesome project!!

Ran across your website, so I thought I’d submit a photo of the cake I made for an election party for a group of students studying and interning abroad in Geneva, Switzerland: chocolate cake with orange and coconut cream cheese frosting, decorated with blueberries and raspberries.
Yum! Thanks Jamie!

Rachel strikes again with some more Obama themed treats. And yay, we get to add to our list of baked treats…Rice Krispie Treats!
One is my rice krispie treats which I made blue and then had a rainbow O in the center of. I know, it’s not nearly as impressive as anything else on your site, but I had a lot of guests over and lots to prepare on election night. I also attached a photo of all of our desserts. You’ve already blogged about the other 2, but I thought it’d be nice to have a photo of all three together.
Pshaw, they’re awesome! Thanks so much Rachel!

I think what is most exciting about Obama, for sure, is not even how inspiring he is here at home, but how the whole WORLD has gotten behind him. Check out this great submission from the UK:

I’m in the UK but I was so excited about this election and I got everyone up and involved, so now I’m rewarding all my friends with a celebratory Obama cake! hurrah!
Yay, thanks so much Rhiannon!

I think what makes this cake (besides, of course, the fact that it is totally awesome) is the rad presentation:
Tony says:
I prepared this for a party (at an apartment on Chicago Avenue, no less)—we just ate it, but here’s a picture from just after completion. It was the first time I worked with fondant, too!
Wow, great job Tony! Thanks!

I saw this cake at the Volunteer Appreciation potluck at the Portland Oredon Obama HQ on September 12, 2008. Jeff Merkley, who was running for Senate (and won!) and Howard Dean were the special guest speakers.
Thanks!

I found these today in my google reader:
and I could just not believe my good luck! Imagine, the great Cakespy making something that goes so perfectly with Yeswecake.com! If you remember, I posted some amazing Vote cake pops from Bakerella. I subscribe to both of their sites in my Google Reader, and you should check them both out because not only are these folks incredibly talented, but they are in like, this amazing war of kindness where they just send each other drawings and baked goods inspired by each other’s work, it’s amazing! I love how, in the interwebs, where people so often can anonymously be mean and take advantage of that, there are these great handmade sites where people are spreading good vibes and happiness.
You can check these very cute postcards and other awesome goods here.
Thanks Cakespy!

I made this cake for my friend Delaney whose birthday happened to be on election day here in Chicago. We ate it and then went out to Grant Park where we cried our eyes out for joy.
