Yes We Cake

OMG! Obamacakes!

Korrine Decorating Instructions

So, I noticed that you guys really loved Korrine’s cake (with good reason!).  Luckily, Korrine was kind enough to share how she made it, so that you guys can try it at home!

Korrine says:

It was so much fun to make a cake about something I am so passionate about.  I have been making cakes for a couple of years- took the Wilton class series- so I could make a decent cake for my daughters’ birthdays.  This was the first time I have had the chance to make a cake for others outside my family.

I actually use a unique technique.  I used it the first time when I was asked to make a KISS cake for my brother-in-laws’ birthday.  I wasn’t sure how to pull that off and I was also not jazzed about the idea of eating black and red icing.  So I found an image online, printed it off and put it on a foil-lined piece of cardboard.  Then it basically became a paint-by-numbers cake.  I then placed a few sugar cubes on the top of the cake and floated the decorated image on that.  The cool thing is that you can remove the image when you cut the cake, still have the image displayed and people can enjoy yummy white frosting.  Gone is the diappointment of working hours on a cake and then having it dissappear in 5 minutes.  I still have the Obama piece and it looks perfect.

The Obama image was pretty detailed so I ended up using a #1 tip for most of it.  Very time consuming but well worth it.  And, of coures, the flavor was marble!

And Korrine was nice enough to share her awesome KISS cake, check it out!

Amazing!  Thanks so much Korrine!  If any of you guys try this technique and want to share the results, feel free to send your pics to cakehero@gmail.com.  Bonus points if you use it for a Barack Cake (maybe for the inauguration?)!
