Yes We Cake

OMG! Obamacakes!

Chrissy

All I have to say is this: 200 cupcakes and a dream.  Amazing.

Chrissy says:

A few weeks before the election my husband approached me with an idea: to make an electoral map using cupcakes to represent the parties. At first, I thought he was crazy. The thought of baking over 100 cupcakes made my head swim. But, the more I thought about it the more excited the idea made me: an electoral map using cupcakes to represent the parties.

Ultimately I settled on baking mini cupcakes, so that the 100+ number didn’t seem so impossible. I made close to 200 cupcakes- including extras to eat while we awaited results, two large cupcakes (one to represent each candidate), and cupcakes for the date. I chose to make Red Velvet cupcakes to represent the Republican party and Blueberry cupcakes to represent the Democratic party. I used Marshmallow Fondant to make stars for each of the cupcakes and piped the state names onto the stars.

I set up the map at the party, with two cupcakes on each state (one red and one blue) and we waited for the results to come in. CNN and MSNBC might have had some fancy new technologies to help viewers understand the election results, but I think we had the tastiest.

You can find pictures of the process at my flickr (which I have put in the Cupcakes Take the Cake photostream) at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupocakedesigns/

You can also find a more in depth description of the project at my website:http://www.cupocakedesigns.com/featured.html

While the Cupcake Electoral Map did represent both parties, we ate a lot more red cupcakes on Tuesday and were just thrilled by the outcome.

Thanks Chrissy, what an awesome project!!
