Crazy Amy
Check out these two cakes from Crazy Amy…they look so nice and white and perfect, it makes the colors look all the more vibrant!
Amy says:
The first was a red velvet cake on the inside and decorated with fondant. The second is a tres leches cake with a small gum paste decoration. Both were made for potluck BBQ’s that I went to with my husband, who is a volunteer on the campaign.
My web site is: www.crazyamyscakes.com
Thanks Amy, they’re the best!

This one looks SO delicious, and I am way impressed by the lettering! Go Meghan!
Meghan says:
I made this cake for a BBQ in San Francisco. It was a huge hit and we
had a ceremonial knife cutting. Love the Yes We Cake site! Great
idea!
Thanks Meghan!

Check out these cookies, how amazing are they?! And the craziest part? Mari’s not even a baker or a cake decorator, she’s a writer!
Mari says:
I’m a freelance writer (reporter and copywriter) who also loves to bake and decorate cookies and cakes. I post a new design or work in progress on my blog, cha no ma-ri, (http://blog.mischiefmari.com) every Monday and the rest of the week, if I post, I write about creative works in progress or my thoughts on my life as a writer. When it comes to decorated cakes and cookies, I think the more unusual and unexpected, the better.
I have made a lot of these cookies and pass them out whenever I can. Just my way of spreading something sweet around in these crazy, angry times.
Well I’m sure they made lots of people very happy! Thanks Mari!

Check out this awesome and upbeat cake baked by Lauren Ray of Denver, Colorado!
And look! If you look closely you can see what looks like an American flag cake, as well as an American flag pie, in the background. Jealous!
You can find this great pic at http://flickr.com/photos/antirobot/2735305557/.
Thanks Cory!

Check out this sweet cake from Nora Leah Sherman, author of the blogs Thought for Food and 2050AD.org. Not only is the cake home to giant awesome Dem noggins, but it’s made from historically appropriate old timey recipes! Yay Nora!
Nora was kind enough to provide us with some info on the recipes so you can make them yourself!
A few days before “Super Tuesday” in February, I baked Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton cakes using a pair of lemon cake recipes created by two Midwestern women for the 1876 presidential election. It was part of my year-long quest to cook my way through American history, which I recorded on a blog I called The Great American Cooking Project.
Living a half a century before universal suffrage, Miss Flora Ziegler of Columbus and Mrs. T. B. of Chicago were banned from the voting booth, but that didn’t keep them from baking — and speaking — their minds. Their recipes for Hayes Cake and Tilden Cake were printed in a national magazine before the election and published the following year inBuckery Cookery and Practical Housekeeping. I just love the idea of those proto-feminist women thinking to themselves, I’m going to make the best recipe I can for my man and my country.
That Obama cake was goo-ood. Like sweet-potato-pie-good. (The Clinton cake fell in the middle). It was, truly, a cake we can believe in. I’m going to bake it again on Nov. 4th — and I invite you to do so, too. Find the recipe here.
Awesome! Thanks so much Nora!

Whoa, this cupcake tower is boss! Check out that amazing Obama figurine, and the great “Blue State” icing…I love it!
From Deirdre:
Cupcakes for the masses! To paraphrase what Isa said in Vegan with a Vengance, how can we expect to take back the White House if we won’t even bake our own cupcakes? These are chocolate-chocolate chip mint cupcakes with blue state frosting.
On Sunday afternoon we hosted a MoveOn.org calling party at our house for 14 people. We called MoveOn volunteers to get them to work with Obama’s campaign in key states from Missouri to Colorado.
Way to get the word out Dierdre! Thanks!

According to Busken Bakery in Ohio, things are looking great for Obama! Check out this adorable cookie (picture taken by Drew on flickr), and read his description of how they predict the outcome of the presidential race:
A local bakery sells sugar cookies with the candidates’ cartoon heads during each election year. They keep track of how many they sell. The sales have always matched the results of the election. Obama is ahead 70%. (I’m in Ohio, btw...)
And here is the bakery: http://www.busken.com/home.php
Thanks Drew!

Here are a few words from Richard:
Melissa,
I have other photos on flickr plus more on Facebook- Richard Kennedy. I build houses, so my website , Sunspacehomes.com is for houses. The obama cake was part of the potluck/ Obama celebration party for his acceptance of the Democratic nomination.
Thanks Richard!

Send your Obama Cakes to cakehero@gmail.com!
I am crazy excited about Obama. I am also crazy excited about cakes, cookies, cupcakes and all sorts of baked goods! So I thought it would be nice and fun to spread some Obama love by baking and giving away some Obama cupcakes at McCarren Point in Greenpoint, Brooklyn this weekend.
After giving them out I looked around online and realized that I wasn’t the only one spreadin’ the Obama word via baked goods! Lots of cakey folks out there are excited for this election, excited for Obama, and excited to get the word out with good vibes and sugar. So send me your cakes! Send me your cookies! Send me your cupcakes and your tarts and whatever else you have made that was inspired by hope, change, and Barack Obama!
To get us started, here are some of the cupcakes I made, along with some pictures of the lovely people I shared them with at the park:

PS: Thank you so much Dan and Hillary!
